Throughout the school year, students and ensembles compete in festival events; are selected by audition for Senior Honors, All-Virginia, and District XII choirs; and receive the Herndon Choral Boosters Scholarships, Governor's School invitations, Choir Department participation awards and Senior Awards, and Music Department Awards. The end-of-year Choral Awards Banquet recognizes the effort, achievement, and progress of the choir students and ensembles.

VMEA Blue Ribbon School Award

The Herndon HS Music Department was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award from the Virginia Music Educator's Association for our Superior Performing Ensembles. All sections of our department—Orchestra, Band, Choir, and Guitar—received Superior ratings at our festivals in the Spring of 07-08.
